Every argument about Gujarati music assumes cinema is the ladder. Sing on a soundtrack, get a state award, become a name. Kinjal Dave skipped the ladder entirely. On 29 July 2026 her Instagram carried 3,119,795 followers, the highest figure this project has recorded for anyone in the language, and her discography is singles, not film songs. Her YouTube channel has posted 56 videos in eight years and those 56 videos hold 888,352,922 views, an average of roughly 15.9 million views per upload. That ratio is the real story. She is not a prolific artist. She is an artist whose individual records travel further than anyone else's, and the one that travelled furthest is the one a court ordered her to stop using.
The arc
01Fifty six songs against half a billion
The KD Digital channel opened on 22 March 2018 and has uploaded 56 videos since. Those 56 videos held 888,352,922 views and 1.81 million subscribers when we read the channel on 29 July 2026. Divide one by the other and each upload is worth roughly 15.9 million views.
Put that beside Kirtidan Gadhvi, who has been uploading since July 2009 and whose 477 videos hold 388,271,613 views, or about 814,000 views each. She has posted an eighth as often and pulled more than twice the traffic. This is a completely different business model living inside the same industry: he built an archive, she built a small number of very heavy objects.
02The year the song went to court
Red Ribbon Entertainment and Kartik Patel, a Gujarati singer based in Australia who performs as Kathiyawadi King, sued her, her publisher RDC Media and Saraswati Studio for copyright infringement over Chaar Chaar Bangdi Vali Gadi. Patel's claim was that her version was his song with small changes, and that his upload came three months earlier. Her position was that the song was written by Manubhai Rabari in 2014.
The Ahmedabad Commercial Court restrained her from using it in January 2019. The Gujarat High Court lifted the restraint a month later. In April the commercial court dismissed the case on jurisdiction. In September the Ahmedabad Civil Court issued a fresh notice, at which point RDC Media and Saraswati Studio accepted infringement and pulled the song from their platforms. Her publisher settled and left her defending the song alone, which is a good description of how much protection a Gujarati folk artist gets from the businesses that distribute her.
03What everybody was actually fighting over
Search the title on a streaming service today and the dispute makes more sense. Shital Thakor has Char Char Bangadi Vali Audi Laidau. Jignesh Barot has Beni Char Char Bangadi Vali Gadi Laidau. Manisha Barot has Char Bangadi Vali Audi. Kinjal Dave's own catalogue carries Char Bangdi Vali Audi Varraja Ni Gadi. All of those were live on JioSaavn when we checked on 29 July 2026.
So the object of the lawsuit was not really a song. It was a formula: a bangled woman, a vehicle, a wedding procession, upgraded from a gadi to an Audi as the audience got richer. Gujarati folk has always worked by variation on a phrase everyone already owns. What changed in 2016 is that variation started generating streaming revenue, and the law had to be asked a question the form has never had to answer.
04The film career she did not take
She did act. Dada Ho Dikree came out on 8 November 2018, a drama directed by Aziz Khan, with her name at the top of the cast list on the year's release schedule. Nothing followed it. Her twenty eight listed singles run from Jonadiyo in 2016 to Jivi Le in 2021 and not one of them is a film credit.
That is a decision, not an absence. Her Instagram bio is a phone number for paid promotion and show enquiries handled by Akash Dave, and a line of devotion above it. No label, no press office, no filmography. The whole apparatus that Gujarati cinema uses to make singers famous is missing, and she has more followers than any of the people who used it.
The work that matters
The obvious pick, chosen for the least obvious reason. Not because it is her biggest record but because it is the only Gujarati folk song this project has found whose ownership was tested in three different courts, and the answer the system gave was that her publisher could settle and she could keep fighting.
The debut single. Worth naming because it establishes that she arrived as a singles artist and never converted. Most Gujarati singers treat singles as a warm up for playback work. For her the single was always the finished product.
The devotional record, and the one that has quietly done the most work. An aarti gets played in homes and at pandals by people who are not thinking about who is singing, which is a deeper form of reach than any chart can register.
Her only film. Included because the road not taken is part of the argument: she tried cinema once, in a drama directed by Aziz Khan released on 8 November 2018, and then went back to the ground where the money actually is.
