Aditya Gadhvi

In December 2013 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences published its shortlist of seventy-five songs eligible for the Best Original Song nomination at the 86th Academy Awards. Two of them were sung by Aditya Gadhvi, from the film Kamasutra: The Revenge. He was nineteen.

Nothing came of it. The songs did not convert into a nomination and the credential did not travel, which is the point. A Gujarati folk and Sufi singer can clear a bar that most Indian playback singers never approach and it will register as a paragraph in a local newspaper. The market he needed did not exist yet.

Compare the release behaviour rather than the follower counts. Kirtidan Gadhvi has 477 videos on a channel opened in 2009. Geeta Rabari has 260 on one opened in 2018. Aditya Gadhvi has seventy on a channel opened in 2012, and his per-upload average of 5.12 million views is roughly six times Kirtidan's 814 thousand.

That is not laziness or a thin catalogue, it is a different theory of what a channel is for. He puts up a video when there is a record worth putting up, which means the channel functions as a release archive rather than as a feed. Almost nobody working in Indian regional music can afford to run it that way, because most of them are paid by volume.

Khalasi was released by Coke Studio Bharat in July 2023, composed by Achint and written by Saumya Joshi. On 29 July 2026 the official upload stood at 184,211,234 views. In November 2023 India Today reported the Prime Minister publicly praising the song and the singer.

The consequence is a structure worth naming. His own channel holds 358.6 million lifetime views. One track on a soft drink company's channel holds 184.2 million. Half of the audience that knows his voice met it somewhere he does not control, does not monetise directly and cannot take with him. That is the modern regional-artist bargain in one number: the platform that breaks you out keeps the asset.

Behind the singles is a film catalogue that runs across two languages. In Gujarati he sang Sapana Vinani Raat in Hellaro, the film that won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, plus songs in Ventilator, GujjuBhai Most Wanted, Luv Ni Love Storys, Kehvatlal Parivar, Nayika Devi, Shubh Yatra, Var Padharavo Saavdhan, Meera, All The Best Pandya, Mithada Maheman and Jai Kanhaiyalall Ki.

In Tamil he sang Marhaba Aavona for D. Imman in Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen alongside Shreya Ghoshal, and Adchithookku in Viswasam. A Gujarati dayro-circuit singer holding two D. Imman playback credits is not a footnote, it is evidence that the voice was portable long before Coke Studio made that visible.

He features on Wheel of Time from Sounds of Kumbha, the album by producer Siddhant Bhatia, alongside Ajay Prasanna and Yashraj. The album was nominated at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in the Best Global Music Album category.

Stated precisely, because precision is the whole value of the fact: the album was nominated, not him, and he is a featured voice on one track of it. It still puts a singer who came up through Gujarati garba and dayro on a Grammy ballot line, and there is no version of the Gujarati music story from ten years ago where that sentence is possible.
