Producers

20 Biggest Gujarati Film Producers

The short answer

Vaishal Shah has the deepest verified slate in Gujarati cinema with eight features including Chhello Divas, Shu Thayu? and Chaniya Toli, followed by Nilay Chotai with six and Jeegar Chauhan with six. Rashmin Majithia of Coconut Motion Pictures produced Chaal Jeevi Laiye!, which held the all time box office record at a reported Rs 50 crore plus until Jay Vyas and Manifest Films released Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate in 2025 at a reported Rs 120 crore. On prizes rather than money, Abhishek Shah co-produced Hellaro, the only Gujarati film to win Best Feature Film at the National Awards, and Dheer Momaya produced Chhello Show, India's Oscar entry for 2023.

Gujarati cinema has no studio system. It has about twenty people who decide, individually, whether a film gets made. That is the whole industry. Where Hindi cinema has Yash Raj and Dharma and a corporate slate approved a year in advance, Gujarati cinema has an Ahmedabad builder, a playback singer, a radio jockey, a theatre legend and a handful of writer directors who got tired of asking permission and started funding themselves. This page is the list of who actually holds the chequebook.

The ranking uses three things a producer cannot fake: the number of Gujarati theatrical features with a verified producer credit, the National Awards on the shelf, and reported box office. It is deliberately not a popularity ranking. Vaishal Shah leads on volume with eight films. Jay Vyas has exactly one and sits in the top ten, because that film is Laalo and it reported around Rs 120 crore, more than the next several hits on the list put together. In an industry this small, one correct bet reorders everything.

The list at a glance

How this list was built

Ranking inputs, in order of weight: verified producer credits on Gujarati theatrical features, National Film Awards attached to those films, and industry-reported box office. Credits were cross-checked against an IMDb-sourced Gujarati credits database covering 118 films from 2014 to 2026 and against English Wikipedia film and biography articles, with each producer's individual film titles listed in their entry so the count can be audited. Every box office figure is labelled reported, because Gujarati cinema has no certified tracker. Four names researched for this list were dropped rather than shipped with a gap. Dipen Patel, co-producer on Vash, Danny Jigar and Kasoombo, has no free-licensed photograph and no Instagram account that a scrape could tie to him rather than to one of several unrelated people with the same name. Munna Shukul, producer on Naadi Dosh and Raado, has an Instagram account at a matching handle whose display name and bio do not confirm the identity, so it was not used. Manish Saini, producer of Dhh and Shubh Yatra, has an account with a matching name but an empty bio and no verifying link. Nilay Chotai's co-producer Harshad Shah could not be verified at all. One conflict is left unresolved on purpose: the credits database lists Aarti Patel as producer of Aum Mangalam Singlem while the film's own trailer credit block names Rashmin Majithia as producer and Patel as co-producer, so the film is counted once, under Patel, on the strength of her own account bio. Production houses are represented by the individual who founded or runs them, which is why Coconut Motion Pictures appears as Rashmin Majithia and CineMan Productions as Abhishek Jain.

The slate builders

The five producers with the deepest verified filmographies in Gujarati cinema.

1Vaishal Shah

Gujarati film producer Vaishal Shah at the premiere of Chaniya Toli in 2025

Verified Gujarati features: 8 · Banner: Jannock Films · Slate: Chhello Divas (2015), Karsandas Pay & Use (2017), Shu Thayu? (2018), Vandha Villas (2018), Fakt Mahilao Maate (2022), 3 Ekka (2023), Fakt Purusho Maate (2024), Chaniya Toli (2025)

Vaishal Shah has the longest unbroken run of hits in modern Gujarati cinema, and the pattern behind it is not luck. He was the first producer to put Malhar Thakar, Yash Soni and Mitra Gadhavi in the same film with Chhello Divas in 2015, then brought the same three back for Shu Thayu? in 2018 and again for 3 Ekka in 2023. Both Shu Thayu? and 3 Ekka sit inside the top ten highest grossing Gujarati films. Casting is usually treated as a creative decision. Shah treats it as an asset he built once and keeps compounding.

His eight verified Gujarati features span a decade and three collaborators who each carry their own audience: Krishnadev Yagnik on the early comedies, Jay Bodas on the Fakt Mahilao Maate and Fakt Purusho Maate pair, and Anand Pandit as co-financier from 2022 onward. He also works in Marathi and Hindi, which is how a Gujarati producer stops being a regional operator and starts being a studio. Chaniya Toli, released nationwide on 21 October 2025, came out of his own banner Jannock Films alongside Anand Pandit Motion Pictures.

2Nilay Chotai

Nilay Chotai@nilaychotaiView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 6 · Business: Owner, Ananta Businesscorp and Ananta Builders · Slate: Chhello Divas (2015), Karsandas Pay & Use (2017), Naadi Dosh (2022), Vash (2023), Danny Jigar (2024), Kasoombo (2024)

Nilay Chotai is the Ahmedabad real estate man who kept writing cheques for Gujarati films when almost nobody outside the industry would. He owns Ananta Businesscorp and Ananta Builders, and the film slate reads like a second business rather than a hobby: Chhello Divas in 2015, Karsandas Pay & Use in 2017 with Vaishal Shah, Naadi Dosh in 2022 with Munna Shukul and Harshad Shah, then three straight years of bigger swings.

The payoff arrived with Vash in 2023. Krishnadev Yagnik's supernatural horror won the National Film Award for Best Gujarati Feature Film at the 71st National Awards, and Janki Bodiwala won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for it. Chotai followed with Danny Jigar in 2024 and then Kasoombo, a period war drama that is about as far from a college comedy as Gujarati cinema has travelled. Six films, four directors, and a genre range that runs from toilet comedy to historical battle. That is a producer buying variance on purpose.

3Rashmin Majithia

Producer Rashmin Majithia with Ratna Pathak Shah and Siddharth Randeria at the premiere of Bachu Ni Benpani

Verified Gujarati features: 4 · Banner: Coconut Motion Pictures · Slate: Chaal Jeevi Laiye! (2019), Kehvatlal Parivar (2022), Bushirt T-shirt (2023), Bachu Ni Benpani (2025)

Before October 2025 the single biggest number in Gujarati cinema belonged to Rashmin Majithia. Chaal Jeevi Laiye!, written and directed by Vipul Mehta and produced by Majithia under Coconut Motion Pictures, released on 1 February 2019 and took a reported figure of more than Rs 50 crore. It held the all time record for six and a half years. It also refused to leave cinemas, entering its eighth year of theatrical life on 1 February 2026, and it was remade in Marathi as Ole Aale in 2024 with Nana Patekar.

Majithia built the rarest thing in a regional industry, which is a company that owns all three legs of the business. Coconut produces, it distributes, and it runs eight cinema properties inside Gujarat. Every other producer on this list has to negotiate for screens. Majithia negotiates with himself. The follow up slate stayed on family comedy, Kehvatlal Parivar in 2022, Bushirt T-shirt in 2023 written and directed by Ishaan Randeria, and Bachu Ni Benpani in 2025 with Siddharth Randeria and Ratna Pathak Shah.

4Anand Pandit

Indian film producer and distributor Anand Pandit

Born: 1963 · Verified Gujarati features: 4 · Banner: Anand Pandit Motion Pictures · Slate: Fakt Mahilao Maate (2022), 3 Ekka (2023), Fakt Purusho Maate (2024), Chaniya Toli (2025)

Anand Pandit is the Hindi film financier who decided Gujarati cinema was worth his own money rather than a distribution fee. He produces and distributes Bollywood titles through Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, with Total Dhamaal, Sarkar 3, Missing, Chehre, The Big Bull and Thank God on the ledger, and he founded Lotus Developers in Mumbai high end real estate. Then in 2022 he backed Fakt Mahilao Maate, a Gujarati comedy that did serious box office, and he has not stopped since.

What he brought was not just capital but reach. Amitabh Bachchan appears in both Fakt Mahilao Maate and Fakt Purusho Maate, which is the sort of casting a Gujarati budget cannot buy and a Pandit phone call can. His four Gujarati features have all come with Vaishal Shah or through his own banner, and 3 Ekka in 2023 went on to become, at the time of its run, the second highest grossing Gujarati film behind Chaal Jeevi Laiye!. Pandit is the proof that Gujarati cinema stopped being a closed shop somewhere around 2022.

5Krishnadev Yagnik

Krishnadev Yagnik@krishnadevyagnikView profile

Born: 17 October 1984 · Verified Gujarati features: 4 · Banners: Belvedere Films, Big Box Series · Slate: Chhello Divas (2015), Karsandas Pay & Use (2017), Shu Thayu? (2018), Vandha Villas (2018)

Krishnadev Yagnik is on this list because he stopped waiting to be hired. He co-founded Belvedere Films and produced Chhello Divas, Karsandas Pay & Use and Shu Thayu? under it, three films he also wrote and directed. That is the writer, the director and the money in one chair, and it is the reason the Chhello Divas voice, loose college Gujarati that had never been allowed on a cinema screen, survived contact with a budget.

He carries a producer credit on Vandha Villas in 2018 as well, and his current banner Big Box Series has been behind the later work. His directing record explains why anyone hands him a budget in the first place: Chhello Divas in 2015, its Hindi remake Days of Tafree in 2016, Shu Thayu? in 2018, Raado and Naadi Dosh in 2022, Vash in 2023 and Vash: Level 2 in 2025. Ten films with a single sensibility. Most Gujarati producers are betting on a market. Yagnik is betting on himself.

The record breakers

One film each, in some cases, and every one of them moved the ceiling.

6Jay Vyas

Jay Vyas@robinhood.jay.vyasView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 1 · Banner: Jay Vyas Productions · Film: Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate (2025) · Reported gross: Around Rs 120 crore worldwide

One film. The biggest one there has ever been. Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate, directed by Ankit Sakhiya and produced by Manifest Films with Jay Vyas Productions and a long list of individual financiers, released on 10 October 2025 and reported a worldwide gross of around Rs 120 crore. It is the first Gujarati film reported past Rs 100 crore. The reported production budget was Rs 50 lakh. Read those two numbers next to each other and you understand why the entire industry recalculated its assumptions in one quarter.

The film almost did not make it. It opened quietly and struggled for a fortnight before word of mouth caught, and the trade trackers had it filed as a failure while it was still climbing. Jay Vyas came into cinema from outside the Ahmedabad film establishment and backed a devotional drama aimed at exactly the small town and family audience the multiplex playbook had written off. A Hindi dubbed version followed on 9 January 2026. Every producer on this list now has a new ceiling to argue with.

7Abhishek Jain

Gujarati film director and producer Abhishek Jain, founder of CineMan Productions

Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Banners: CineMan Productions, OHO Gujarati · Slate: Bey Yaar (2014), Wrong Side Raju (2016)

Abhishek Jain is credited with restarting Gujarati cinema. Kevi Rite Jaish in 2012 lit the match, and then his own company CineMan Productions backed the two films that turned a revival into a business. Bey Yaar in 2014 ran fifty weeks in theatres and became the first Gujarati film hosted by the New York Indian Film Festival. Wrong Side Raju in 2016, made with Phantom Films and directed by Mikhil Musale, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Gujarati at the 64th National Awards.

He then did the thing most regional producers never get around to, which is building the pipe as well as the product. Jain founded OHO Gujarati, the first exclusive Gujarati OTT platform in India, so that a Gujarati film has somewhere to live after its theatrical window closes. In 2021 he directed Hum Do Hamare Do in Hindi for Maddock Films, with CineMan serving as associate producer. Two producer credits looks thin on a chart. In practice he built the road the other nineteen names drive on.

8Abhishek Shah

Abhishek Shah@abhishek_humanbeingView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 1 · Banners: Harfanmaula Films, Saarthi Productions · Film: Hellaro (2019) · Credential: National Film Award for Best Feature Film, 66th National Awards

Hellaro is the only Gujarati film to have won the Swarna Kamal for Best Feature Film at the National Awards, and Abhishek Shah is one of its six producers as well as its co-writer and director. He put his own money behind a period drama set in the Rann of Kutch in the 1970s, with a cast of seven women and no stars, and no obvious commercial logic. Ashish Patel, Nirav Patel, Aayush Patel, Prateek Gupta and Mit Jani produced it with him under Saarthi Productions and Harfanmaula Films.

It won Best Feature Film at the 66th National Awards, opened the Indian Panorama section at the 50th International Film Festival of India, and was nominated there for best debut feature by a director. Shah has kept working on the same instinct since, directing Umbarro in 2025, a family comedy drama adapted from the Marathi film Jhimma. The lesson of Hellaro for every producer reading this page is unpleasant and useful: the most decorated Gujarati film of the century was financed by people who had no reason to expect their money back.

9Dheer Momaya

Dheer Momaya@dnm_rootsView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 1 · Banner: Jugaad Motion Pictures · Film: Chhello Show, released internationally as Last Film Show (2021) · Credential: India's official entry for Best International Feature, 95th Academy Awards

Chhello Show is the film that carried the Gujarati language to the Academy Awards, and Dheer Momaya produced it with Marc Duale, Virginie Lacombe and Eric Dupont for Pan Nalin. It premiered at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival on 10 June 2021, released in Indian cinemas on 14 October 2022, went forward as India's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards, and made the shortlist.

Momaya founded Jugaad Motion Pictures and works mostly outside the Gujarati commercial circuit, with Namdev Bhau: In Search of Silence and a run of music videos on his slate. That distance is the point. Chhello Show is a Gujarati film financed on the festival and international coproduction model rather than the Ahmedabad multiplex model, and it is the only Gujarati title most film programmers outside India can name. One producer, one film, and a permanent line in the record.

10Twinkle Vijaygiri

Twinkle Vijaygiri@twinklevijaygiriView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 3 · Banner: Vijaygiri FilmOS · Slate: Premji: Rise of a Warrior (2015), Montu Ni Bittu (2019), 21mu Tiffin (2021) · Also: Painter and costume designer

Twinkle Vijaygiri runs Vijaygiri FilmOS and has produced every feature her partner Vijaygiri Bava has directed since 2015. The three verified titles are Premji: Rise of a Warrior, Montu Ni Bittu and 21mu Tiffin, and the range across them is the story. Premji is a period warrior film. Montu Ni Bittu, written by Prarthi Dholakia and Raam Mori and released on 23 August 2019, is a small comedy about two childhood friends. 21mu Tiffin, adapted from a Raam Mori short story and released on 10 December 2021, is about a woman running a tiffin service.

That last one is worth sitting with. In an industry that mostly finances comedies about young men in Ahmedabad, a producer put money behind a drama about a middle aged woman and her lunch boxes. Vijaygiri also works as a painter and costume designer, which is why her films look considered on budgets that should not allow it. She is one of very few women running a production banner in Gujarati cinema, and she has done it without a single star name to hide behind.

The artists who became financiers

Singers, stage actors and radio voices who put their own audience up as collateral.

11Manasi Parekh

Gujarati actor and producer Manasi Parekh, National Film Award winner for Kutch Express

Verified Gujarati features: 3 · Slate: Kutch Express (2023), Jhamkudi (2024), Shubhchintak (2025) · Credential: National Film Award for Best Actress, 2024, for Kutch Express

Manasi Parekh produced the film she won a National Award for. Kutch Express, directed by Viral Shah and produced with Parthiv Gohil, released in January 2023 with Ratna Pathak Shah and Darsheel Safary alongside her, and took three awards at the 70th National Film Awards including Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values. She won Best Actress for playing Monghi. Very few Indian actors have financed their own award winning performance. Almost none in a regional language.

She kept going rather than cashing the trophy. Jhamkudi in 2024, a horror comedy directed by Umang Vyas, was a commercial hit and was produced by her and Gohil. Shubhchintak followed on 30 May 2025, a crime thriller directed by Nisarg Vaidya, again produced by the same pair with Dhaval Thakkar co-producing. Three films, three genres, three years. Parekh built a production company the hard way, by using her own face as the first line of collateral.

12Parthiv Gohil

Parthiv Gohil@parthivgohil9View profile

Born: 18 February 1976 · Verified Gujarati features: 4 · Slate: Golkeri (2020, co-producer), Kutch Express (2023), Jhamkudi (2024), Shubhchintak (2025) · Known for: Playback singing in Devdas, Saawariya, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Kisaan

Parthiv Gohil was a Hindi playback singer long before he was a producer, with Devdas, Saawariya, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Kisaan on his discography and Aasmani, Thai Jashe and Soni Gujarati Ni on the Gujarati side. Singers usually stay on the soundtrack. Gohil moved to the balance sheet, co-producing Golkeri in 2020 and then partnering with Manasi Parekh on the three films that follow.

The partnership has produced the most decorated commercial run in recent Gujarati cinema. Kutch Express took three National Awards at the 70th ceremony, Jhamkudi turned a horror comedy into a hit in 2024, and Shubhchintak went out on 30 May 2025 with Swapnil Joshi leading a crime thriller. Gohil is proof of a specific Gujarati pattern: in an industry where institutional money arrived late, the people with an existing audience of their own, singers, stage actors, builders, became the financiers by default.

13Siddharth Randeria

Gujarati theatre and film actor and producer Siddharth Randeria at the premiere of Bachu Ni Benpani

Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Banner: Siddharth Randeria Productions · Slate: Gujjubhai the Great (2015), Hu ane Tu (2023) · Known for: The Gujjubhai franchise, from stage to screen

Siddharth Randeria is the biggest name in Gujarati theatre, and Gujjubhai the Great in 2015 was his own stage franchise crossing over to film. Nakshatra Entertainment presented it, Devendra N. Patel produced it, and Siddharth Randeria Productions came in as the associated banner. His son Ishaan directed. It is the clearest example of Gujarati cinema's real supply chain, which is not film school but the natak circuit that has been selling tickets in Gujarat for fifty years.

He carries a full producer credit on Hu ane Tu in 2023, made with Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and Ishaan Randeria and distributed by Panorama Studios. As an actor he anchored Chaal Jeevi Laiye!, the film that held the all time Gujarati box office record until Laalo, and he leads Bachu Ni Benpani in 2025. Randeria is the bridge that most people forget to count: theatre money, theatre audiences and theatre timing, quietly underwriting the film industry.

14Ishaan Randeria

Ishaan Randeria@randeriaishaanView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 1 · Producer credit: Hu ane Tu (2023) · Directed: Gujjubhai the Great (2015), GujjuBhai Most Wanted (2018), Bushirt T-shirt (2023)

Ishaan Randeria wrote and directed all three of the films that made the Gujjubhai name a screen property, and then took a producer credit on Hu ane Tu in 2023 alongside his father Siddharth, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. Gujjubhai the Great in 2015 and GujjuBhai Most Wanted in 2018 were adapted from stage material that already had a proven audience, which is the least glamorous and most reliable way to de risk a regional film.

His third, Bushirt T-shirt in 2023, was produced by Rashmin Majithia under Coconut Motion Pictures and paired Siddharth Randeria with Vandana Pathak and Reeva Rachh. Randeria sits in the same category as Krishnadev Yagnik and Abhishek Shah, the writer directors who moved to the money side because in a small industry nobody else was going to protect the material. His Instagram bio still describes the job as directing things. The producer credit came anyway.

15Aarti Patel

Aarti Patel@aartivyaspatelView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Slate: Love Ni Bhavai (2017), Aum Mangalam Singlem (2022) · Also: Radio jockey at 94.3 MyFM, writer and actor

Aarti Patel produced Love Ni Bhavai in 2017, a romantic drama directed by Saandeep Patel with a score by Sachin-Jigar and lyrics by Niren Bhatt, at a moment when Gujarati cinema was still assumed to be a comedy only market. It worked, and it gave the industry a soundtrack that outlived the film. She followed it in 2022 with Aum Mangalam Singlem, again with Saandeep Patel directing, starring Malhar Thakar and Aarohi Patel.

Her day job is radio. Patel is an award winning RJ at 94.3 MyFM, and she writes and acts as well, which in a small industry is less a portfolio and more a survival structure. Two produced films is a modest number on the chart above. Both of them are romances that were financed by a woman in an industry where the money almost always sits with men, and both of them made money. That is the harder credential.

Instagram: @aartivyaspatel (verified 2026-07-29).

Independent houses running a slate, and the national studio that decided Gujarati was worth producing directly.

16Anish Shah

Anish Shah@anishtshahView profile

Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Banner: November Films · Slate: Dhunki (2019), Udan Chhoo (2024)

Anish Shah directs and produces the same films, which in Gujarati cinema is closer to a necessity than a vanity. Dhunki, released on 26 July 2019, was produced by Kuldip Patel, Jay Shah and Shah himself under November Films, and starred Pratik Gandhi and Deeksha Joshi as two partners trying to get a startup off the ground. A Gujarati film about founders, financed by its own founder, is a joke that writes itself and also happens to be the actual production history.

Udan Chhoo followed on 6 September 2024, produced by Raahul Badal, Anish Shah and Jay Shah under Indira Motion Pictures and November Films, with Deven Bhojani, Prachee Shah Paandya, Aarohi Patel and Aarjav Trivedi. Five years between the two films is a long gap, and it is the most honest fact on this entry. Independent Gujarati producers do not release annually. They release when the money reassembles.

17Jeegar Chauhan

Jeegar Chauhan@jeegar.chauhanView profile

Born: 18 March 1993, Ahmedabad · Verified Gujarati features: 6 · Banner: Jeegar Chauhan Productions · Slate: Dhuandhaar (2021), Sonu Tane Mara Par Bharoso Nai Ke (2022), Congratulations (2023), Lagan Special (2024), Locha Laapsi (2024), All The Best Pandya (2025)

Jeegar Chauhan is the youngest producer on this list and runs the highest release cadence. Born in Ahmedabad in 1993, he took a BBA from Som-Lalit Institute of Business Administration under Gujarat University, started in 2018 with an unreleased film called Kesariya, and has since put out a feature almost every year through Jeegar Chauhan Productions along with music videos and web series.

His most consistent collaborator is Malhar Thakar, and the pairing tells you the model: identify the actor Gujarati audiences will actually turn up for, then build a production line around him rather than chasing one prestige swing. It is the least romantic strategy on this page and one of the more durable ones. Chauhan also works outside film through a fitness partnership and a garba organising venture, which is a very Ahmedabad way to keep a film slate solvent between releases.

Instagram: @jeegar.chauhan (verified 2026-07-29).

18Vijaygiri Bava

Gujarati filmmaker and producer Vijaygiri Bava of Vijaygiri FilmOS

Born: 24 March 1987 · Banner: Vijaygiri FilmOS · Producer credit: Kasoombo (2024) · Directed: Premji: Rise of a Warrior (2015), Montu Ni Bittu (2019), 21mu Tiffin (2021), Kasoombo (2024)

Vijaygiri Bava directs the Vijaygiri FilmOS slate and carries a producer credit on Kasoombo, the 2024 historical drama written by Raam Mori that released on 16 February 2024 and went out in a Hindi version across India on 3 May 2024. Raunaq Kamdar, Dharmendra Gohil, Chetan Dhanani, Shraddha Dangar and Monal Gajjar led it. It is the most expensive looking film any Gujarati banner had attempted at that point.

Bava's career is a straight line of escalating risk: a period warrior film in 2015, a small friendship comedy in 2019, a quiet drama about a tiffin service in 2021, then a battle epic in 2024. He and Twinkle Vijaygiri operate as a director and producer unit, which is why the banner keeps making films that no external financier would have greenlit on paper. In a market that rewards the safe comedy, that partnership is the closest thing Gujarati cinema has to an art house with a war chest.

19Kumar Mangat Pathak

Kumar Mangat Pathak, producer and chairman of Panorama Studios

Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Banner: Panorama Studios · Slate: Hu ane Tu (2023), Maharani (2025) · Also: Panorama distributed Naadi Dosh (2022) and Hu ane Tu

Kumar Mangat Pathak founded Panorama Studios, formerly Big Screen Entertainment and Wide Frame Pictures, and is the biggest Hindi industry name to have moved money into Gujarati production rather than just buying finished films. Panorama distributed Naadi Dosh in 2022, then produced Hu ane Tu in 2023 with Siddharth and Ishaan Randeria, and Maharani in 2025 with Abhishek Pathak, Pritesh Thakkar and others.

Maharani, directed by Viral Shah and starring Manasi Parekh and Shraddha Dangar, is a remake of the 2024 Marathi film Nach Ga Ghuma, which is a useful signal in itself. When a national studio starts routing proven Marathi material through Gujarati remakes, the language has stopped being a charity case and started being a distribution channel. Panorama Music runs the soundtracks on the same films, which is how a studio makes a regional title pay twice.

20Abhishek Pathak

Producer and director Abhishek Pathak of Panorama Studios, photographed with Shivaleeka Oberoi in Andheri, Mumbai

Born: 1 July 1987 · Verified Gujarati features: 2 · Banner: Panorama Studios · Slate: Hu ane Tu (2023), Maharani (2025) · Hindi credits: Directed Drishyam 2 and Ujda Chaman, produced Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Section 375 and Khuda Haafiz

Abhishek Pathak runs the next generation of Panorama Studios and is the reason the company keeps showing up on Gujarati call sheets. He directed Drishyam 2 and Ujda Chaman and produced Pyaar Ka Punchnama, its sequel, Section 375 and Khuda Haafiz, so his Hindi record is a lot heavier than his Gujarati one. That imbalance is exactly why his two Gujarati credits matter.

He produced Hu ane Tu in 2023 with his father Kumar Mangat and the Randerias, then Maharani in 2025 with Viral Shah directing Manasi Parekh and Shraddha Dangar. A producer with a Drishyam 2 on his CV choosing to spend time on a Gujarati family comedy is not sentiment, it is arithmetic: Gujarati budgets are small, the audience is loyal, and the remake rights travel. Pathak is what a Gujarati film looks like when it is treated as a normal line item in a national studio's year.

Questions people actually ask

Who is the biggest Gujarati film producer?

On verified credits it is Vaishal Shah, with eight Gujarati features from Chhello Divas in 2015 to Chaniya Toli in 2025, including Shu Thayu? and 3 Ekka which both rank in the top ten highest grossing Gujarati films. On a single film basis the answer is Jay Vyas of Jay Vyas Productions, whose Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate reported around Rs 120 crore worldwide in 2025.

Who produced the highest grossing Gujarati film of all time?

Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate, released on 10 October 2025, was produced by Manifest Films with Jay Vyas Productions and a group of individual financiers. It reported a worldwide gross of around Rs 120 crore against a reported budget of Rs 50 lakh, and is the first Gujarati film reported past Rs 100 crore. Before it, Rashmin Majithia's Chaal Jeevi Laiye! held the record at a reported Rs 50 crore plus.

Which Gujarati producer has the most National Awards?

No single producer dominates, which is the point. Abhishek Shah co-produced Hellaro, the only Gujarati film to win Best Feature Film at the National Awards, at the 66th ceremony. Nilay Chotai produced Vash, which won Best Gujarati Feature Film at the 71st. Manasi Parekh and Parthiv Gohil produced Kutch Express, which took three awards at the 70th including Best Actress for Parekh herself. Abhishek Jain's CineMan produced Wrong Side Raju, Best Gujarati Feature at the 64th.

Are there women producing Gujarati films?

Yes, and two of them run their own slates. Twinkle Vijaygiri founded Vijaygiri FilmOS and has produced Premji: Rise of a Warrior, Montu Ni Bittu and 21mu Tiffin. Manasi Parekh has produced Kutch Express, Jhamkudi and Shubhchintak, and won a National Film Award for Best Actress in a film she financed. Aarti Patel produced Love Ni Bhavai and Aum Mangalam Singlem.

How much does it cost to produce a Gujarati film?

There is no published average, and any single figure would be a guess. What is documented is the range at the extremes. Laalo was made on a reported budget of Rs 50 lakh and reported around Rs 120 crore worldwide, while Bey Yaar in 2014 was reported at a Rs 2.25 crore budget against a reported Rs 8.5 crore gross. Both figures are industry-reported and neither is audited.
